EXCURSION TIP: TO THE WACKELSTEIN!

Hiking in the romantic Regental valley.

Above Heilinghausen, behind Regenstauf, there is a picturesque little hike that we really like. On the so-called “Franzenshöhe” there is a rocking stone. This is an egg-shaped stone with a diameter of 3 m.
In front of the Heilinghausen country inn, a narrow road leads up to the small village of “Gibacht”. A small 4.5 km circular trail to the Wackelstein begins there.

The route is initially signposted with a white-green rectangle. As the path leads between houses onto a meadow at the beginning, please be considerate of the local residents. After a short walk across the meadow, you come to a wooded area. The path is well signposted (green rectangle with white border) and leads partly on gravel paths through a pretty mixed forest with many beech and oak trees.

The path to the Wackelstein is signposted after a while with a wooden sign. From here, follow the hiking trail with the red triangle. After a short climb, you will reach the many moss-covered rocks on the left.

There is a long iron chain on the wobble stone itself, which can be used by very strong people to move the stone. We didn’t make it, by the way.

The path continues to a beautiful viewpoint, the Riedelhöhe rock pulpit. The turn-off to the right to Riedelhöhe is marked on a tree. From here you can enjoy the view for miles, even up to 90 km in good weather!

We continue along the path, which leads slightly downhill after a hairpin bend. To get back to Gibacht, we turn left onto a narrow forest path shortly after a high seat.

The path leads past even more rocks, beeches and oaks and offers fresh forest air and beautiful views of the Regental valley. At the end, the forest path joins the gravel path from the beginning. Turn right to return to Gibacht.

Refreshment tip: Landgasthof Heilinghausen Incidentally, there is a small, privately built chapel in Gibacht that is quite magical. Ecumenical Taizé prayers are held there every third Friday of the month at 7.00 pm. The chapel is open to the public (Gibacht 5). You can walk a longer loop from Marienthal (starting point excursion restaurant, hiking trail red triangle, 12 km) or from the Landgasthof Heilinghausen, address: Alte Regenstraße 5, 93128 Regenstauf (red triangle) Sturdy footwear is required for the tour. Not suitable for baby carriages.
