Wine time

FALL IS WINE TIME!

In Vino Sanitas, in Vino Veritas. In wine lies health and truth – the Romans already knew this when they settled on the banks of the Danube in the second century of our era and founded Castra Regina. This is why viticulture has been at home here since that time. In Winzer and Bach an der Donau, this tradition is still carried on today with a great deal of love, passion and commitment. Even if there is only one liter of wine per capita in Bavaria for every five liters of beer, the juice from the grapes still has its fans in our regions. Here we have put together a small selection of places where you can enjoy the noble grape juice particularly well:

Federweißenfest

What could be nicer than sitting in a vineyard with friends in a relaxed atmosphere and enjoying a glass of wine or a tasty Federweißen? On September 25th, the Baier Wine Museum in Bach an der Donau offers all interested parties the opportunity to do just that. For refreshment, there will be homemade hearty onion tart, Bach vintner’s ham, Obatzda as well as cheese and lard sandwiches. From 1 p.m. this year, “Fünf auf Kraut” will be playing old Bavarian, Alpine and Bohemian brass band music to provide a suitably discreet backdrop, because music always goes with wine. Anyone who has ever been here will understand that this festival has long since become an annual highlight in Regensburg’s calendar of events. Almost like a Heurigen in Vienna – or even better – right on your doorstep!

Nomen est omen: Winzer in Winzer

Oswald Zitzelsberger in particular revived the culture of Baier wine in Winzer. The private cultivation of white wine in this location has been documented since 1225 and the winegrower was liable to pay tithes to the Schottenkloster St. Jakob monastery. It was not until 1764, however, that red wine cultivation was documented, which came to the Stadtamhof burghers’ hospital through the imposition of a tithe. As was the case hundreds of years ago, the wine is produced by winegrowers in pure manual labor and sustainable cultivation in the best south-east and south-west steep slopes according to ecological principles. The gentle, traditional vinification of the hand-picked grapes preserves the fine aromas. The wine is constantly checked by a public specialist laboratory during the ageing period in the cellar. The wine is then given the time that a good wine needs to mature in peace. On September 23, you can join us on a wine tour through Germany at the Weinkontor Sinzing: This time, the young winemaker Florian Riederer from will do the honors in the series of events under the motto “Flo uncorks “Special” A small wine seminar on the topic “How to taste wine” – The little 1×1 when tasting offers Riederer on Friday, September 30, 2022. Newcomers or wine connoisseurs will shed light together on how wines differ and what you should pay attention to when tasting. Here you will be poured pure wine on the subject – with ten different varieties. “Ad vinitores” – “Among the winegrowers” The Winzerer Heights are considered to be the oldest vineyards in Old Bavaria with written records. Germany’s first Müller-Thurgau was cultivated on these slopes in 1913, which means that winegrowing in the Danube valley has been going on for over 100 years in modern times. The radiologist Dr. Hans Riess planted the first vines of his small vineyard on the Gallinger Weinberg back in 1949, thus building a bridge from Roman times to the present day. After all, the smallest district of Regensburg was not called “Ad vinitores” – “By the winegrowers” – by the Romans for nothing. So it is certainly also thanks to Dr. Riess that the quality designation “Regensburger Landwein” has become a brand in its own right. His daughter and her husband are the second generation to continue this tradition with a small but fine selection of unadulterated wines and spirits. You can enjoy this authentic, regional and urban wine enjoyment in various restaurants in the area: on a culinary excursion to the “Goldener Löwe” inn in Kallmünz or directly in our town in the “Bischofshof” restaurant and the “Orphée” restaurant.

Enology with tradition

You can also immerse yourself in the secrets of wine at the events at the Rehorik House of Delights. As is well known, the company’s range extends from the equator and the world of coffee to the Scottish Highlands and the spirits that go with it, as well as the best international wine-growing regions. In any case, a culinary journey of indulgence, because the Rehorik house has tradition and high standards. Rehorik has been living coffee, wine and delicatessen for four generations now. What Hugo Rehorik started almost a century ago is still continued today with ancient knowledge and respect for the products. You can see this for yourself at the wine seminar, wine tasting or black & wine tasting and be surprised by the sommelier at Rehorik at the “Taste out of the box” on October 6 or enjoy >La dolce vita< with the “Italian variety” on November 4.

cum tempore. Wines with time

Christian Thoma was born with a special flair and passion for wine. As a child in his uncle’s wine shop, he was already fascinated by Kabinett, Spätlese and Eiswein. He has been running wine seminars in Regensburg for over ten years now and has made a name for himself in the process. “cum tempore. Wines with time” is the name Thoma has given his wine academy, because the most important thing for him is to give budding wine connoisseurs a guide to their own judgment. To explain wines without ideology and to share his passion for good wine with his guests. If you are interested, you should take your time and register quickly, as all wine tastings for 2022 are already fully booked!
