Short bike tours
SHORT & CRISP: THREE BRISK BIKE TOURS.
Spring is here, everyone finally wants to get out again, get some fresh air and enjoy the sun. After the long winter, it’s also high time to top up your vitamin D stores. The current weather is perfect for the first bike rides. We’re getting the bike out this weekend and going for a little ride.
Here are our tips for three short bike tours:
By bike to Walhalla
Just before the Danube shopping center, you can turn right onto the Danube cycle path coming from the Nibelungen Bridge. The cycle path is well signposted and easy to cycle, with no inclines. It is 12 km to the Walhalla.
If you want, you can climb the 358 steps up to the classical building designed by architect Leo von Klenze. King Ludwig I commissioned this hall of fame and honor.
On the way back, it is worth making a detour to Donaustauf Castle. Refreshments: Historisches Armen Spital, Walhallastraße 9, 93093 Donaustauf
By bike to Matting
On this cycle tour, we start on the Danube at the Iron Footbridge on the Alstad side and follow the Danube cycle path westwards / Kleinprüfening. Continuing along the left bank of the Danube, we reach the pretty village of Matting after around 13 km.
The village lies on the south bank of a bend in the Danube, which has cut into the limestone between Bad Abbach and Sinzing. The “Mattinger Hänge” have been a nature reserve since 1941. Incidentally, Matting was first mentioned between 875 and 882. Refreshments: Mattinger Zunftstüberl, An der Donau 21A, 93080 Pentling
By bike to the Pielmühler weir
We start at the Auerbräu brewery in Regensburg and take the Regental cycle path, which we ride straight ahead to the left of the river Regen. After approx. 7 km we come to the Pielmühle leisure area at the Pielmüher Weir. This is a popular swimming spot, especially in summer. The route is short and very easy to cycle, and the short ride along the Regen is really beautiful. Incidentally, the leisure area is perfect for a small picnic, benches are available.
Have fun and enjoy the sunshine!
