EVERYTHING IN FLOW! RIVER BATHING.

It’s not everyone’s cup of tea, but we love swimming in the river. Fortunately, there are plenty of bathing spots and river baths on the Danube, Naab or Regen in and around Regensburg. Swimming against the current or drifting with it is simply wonderful! As no boat traffic is allowed on the Naab and the Regen, you can not only swim undisturbed, but also paddle wonderfully in a kayak, canoe, rubber dinghy or SUP.

We have put together our favorite bathing spots for you:

On the Danube

The best known is of course the so-called “Schillerwiese”, a long park along the banks of the Danube. Here, behind the weir in the west of the town, there are several bathing bays in front of the Westbadweiher pond. (Kiosk: no | WC: porta-potty)
In the middle of the town, you can swim along the Grieser Steg in the Danube. (Kiosk: no | WC: no)

By the rain

In the middle of Regensburg, on the left and right banks of the Regen , there are bathing bays with pebble beaches. On the Regental cycle path near the Auerbräu brewery and in Obere Regenstrasse. (Kiosk: no | WC: no)
If you continue along the Regental cycle path towards Regenstauf, you will come to the large Pielmühle recreational area on the right at the Lappersdorf weir. (mobile kiosk: partly | WC: yes)
Behind Regenstauf, 13 km from Regensburg, lies the beautiful Valentinsbad, idyllically situated on the River Regen. A wonderful place to swim. A bridge leads to the island in the Regen with its spacious sunbathing lawn. There are several convenient access points: via a small sandy beach (great for children), various spots along the river and a ladder at the end of the river pool. In addition to volleyball, you can also play soccer, badminton or boccia – there is plenty of space at Valentinsbad. There is a playground for children. It is easy to get there by bike via the beautiful Regental cycle path and there is free parking for cars. Admission is also free and the Valentinsbad restaurant is a great place to stop for a bite to eat and sit comfortably on the terrace with a view of the rain. On the other bank of the Regen is the Ramspau river pool. Table tennis and a beach volleyball court make the pool on the Regen an attractive destination on hot summer days. There is even a beer garden (kiosk: yes | WC: yes) Address: Am Wehr 3, Regenstauf (Ramspau)

On the Naab

The Naab flows into the Danube at Mariaort, 4 km before Regensburg. Here you can go swimming or paddling at the Naabspitz opposite the pilgrimage church. Refreshment stop: Krieger in Mariaort. (Kiosk: no | WC: no)
Our tip: PADDELZEIT boat hire at Naabstraße 2 in Mariaort offers various canoes and kayaks.

A little further on near Etterzhausen there is also a picturesque bathing spot on the Naab. (Kiosk: no | WC: no)

Opposite the Pielenhofen monastery is a large sunbathing lawn with a small sandy beach and sandy entrance. Benches and a playground with a large table are also available. Refreshments: Klosterwirtschaft Pielenhofen (kiosk: no | WC: no)
