SUMMER FESTIVALS IN REGENSBURG!
Temperatures are slowly rising again. Reason enough to look forward to summer. This year we can look forward to a number of open air festivals in Regensburg! From the Schlossgarten Open Air Festival to the Jazz Weekend, the Klangfarben Festival or the Palazzo Festival, from classical music to electro at Zuckerbrot & Peitsche, there’s something for everyone. And all in the open air.
Here are the RegensburgNow tips for concerts and open air events in Regensburg:
21.06.2024 Peterlicht at 20:00 at Thon-Dittmer-Palais He has sung about the end of capitalism, buried his iPhone at the bend in the river, churned out hits like “Sonnendeck” and created his own brand over the years with various records, books, films and plays. Without lapsing into acute social or cultural criticism, he skillfully handles the phenomena of our time in his songs and his sound resembles a broad band between LoFi, Easy Listening, Wave and Hamburg School. Support: SOMNAMBUHL 21.06.2024 Menzl meets So&So at 7.30 pm in the Prüfeninger Schlossgarten With the Kapelle Josef Menzl and the Kapelle So&So, the crème de la crème of Bavarian brass players take to the stage of the Prüfeninger Schlossgarten for the premiere of the first Schlossgarten Open Air Festival in Regensburg. They are virtuosic, versatile, highly entertaining and really let it rip. 21.06.2024 Paul Kalkbrenner at Dultplatz at 18:00 Growing up in the golden era of techno, Kalkbrenner is synonymous with dance music. He was twelve years old when the Berlin Wall came down and spent his teenage years raving before he started DJing and collecting records. Later, Kalkbrenner focused more on producing and playing his own music live. Although he became popular at the height of the Berlin era of techno and his early career was very closely linked to the Berlin record label Bpitch Control, his fan base always remained loyal to him. By the time he starred in the groundbreaking film “Berlin Calling” (2008), whose soundtrack broke records across Europe, he had already released several albums such as “Superimpose” (2001), “Zeit” (2001) and “Self” (2004). 21-23.06.2024 Gassenfest an der Donau The festival of social initiatives at Donaumarkt and Donaulände with various stages and bands. Friday: from 3.00 pm Saturday: from 12.00 pm Sunday: from 10.00 am 22-23.06.2024 Colorful weekend at Grieser Spitz22.06.2024 Steiner & Madlaina at 8.00 pm at Thon-Dittmer-Palais The two celebrated Swiss musicians Nora Steiner and Madlaina Pollina know perfectly how to combine folk with pop, singer/songwriting with indie rock and heartache with social criticism. Together with their band, they give the songs a vintage shimmer, docking with twang to chanson, jazz, rock’n’roll and new wave in order to dish out pop rock, surf and even post-punk – including dirty horns and smoky junk. Clever pop music, with the right balance between approachability and professionalism, self-irony and seriousness. 26.06.2024 Folkshilfe at 20:00 in the Thon-Dittmer-Palais For the Austrian pop trio FOLKSHILFE, the last few years have been a frenzy of success. Successful albums, constant radio airplay, completely sold-out concerts and an Amadeus Award to boot. They have created a niche for themselves with their unique dialect squeeze pop. With quetschn, synthesizer, polyphonic vocals, guitar and drums, they deliver an incredibly diverse and captivating mix, complete with fat grooves and fat bass. After several sold-out performances in the Mälze, now in the open air in the wonderful ambience of the Thon-Dittmer-Palais! 26.06.2024 Dreiviertelblut at 7.30 pm in Prüfeninger Schlossgarten The Munich band, whose sound has sometimes been described as “powerful” and their performance as “stunning”, spans a wide spectrum of worldly and heavenly emotions and is not afraid to open the door to hell. Musically and in words, they roam the heights and depths of existence, flying from the purest happiness to the darkest despair. But the darkness is always followed by a smile. And because the love of darkness comes across in this crude, Bavarian humor, it reveals itself to be deeply human, with heart, timeless beauty and touching poetry. 27.06.2024 Dekker at 20.00 at Thon-Dittmer-Palais Sold-out shows throughout Europe, numerous festival appearances and over 60 million streams are clear proof that DEKKER has taken the right path with his refusal to accept the general negativism of our time. After a sold-out solo show in February 2023, the US-American is now back with a band and a new album. His indie folk with great songwriting, balanced acoustic vibes, restrained guitars and a wonderful voice makes for dynamic and rousing moments that get the audience dancing and singing along. 28.06.2024 ENGELSTAEDTER – THE MAGIC OF QUEEN “CLASSIC” at 7.30 pm in the Prüfeninger Schlossgarten THE MAGIC OF QUEEN “CLASSIC” is a unique, musical tribute to one of the greatest rock bands of all time: QUEEN! None other than the exceptional singer MARKUS ENGELSTAEDTER, celebrated by audiences and the press as one of the “most outstanding Queen interpreters in Europe”, will be at the microphone. 04-07/07/2024 THE 43rd BAYERISCHES JAZZWEEKEND REGENSBURG 16 venues are involved in the festival, over 100 national and international bands will perform in and around Regensburg. Because even in the district, things don’t stand still. This year, rousing jazz can be found in two communities in the district of Regensburg on the atmospheric stages in Kallmünz and Wenzenbach. During the four days of the Jazzweekend, young up-and-coming artists step into the limelight and meet national and international stars of the scene. A determination that has manifested itself in four precious metal decorated albums “My Cassette Player” (2010, 5-times gold), “Good News” (2011, platinum), “Stardust” (2012, gold), “Crystal Sky” (2015, gold) and her latest top 2 album “Only Love, L” (2019) as well as countless awards from the MTV Europe Music Award to the German Television Award, the Golden Camera to the 1Live Krone, the Golden Hen and the ECHO. 23.07.2024 KIEFER SUTHERLAND at 20.00 Piazza in the Gewerbepark Sutherland devotes himself to other projects that interest him personally and creatively alongside his acting career. In 1992, he began roping on the USTRC circuit, winning rodeos in Phoenix, Indio and Los Angeles and running a small cattle ranch on California’s mid-coast. In 2016, he released the first of three studio albums over a five-year period, “Down In A Hole,” “Reckless & Me” and “Bloor Street,” which were followed by an extensive touring schedule of over 600 live shows. Kiefer was looking forward to getting back on the road. Early last year, he played sold-out shows across Europe and broke attendance records for his timeslot at various festivals. 24.07.2024 Ambros Pur! – Volume 6 at 19.00 Piazza in the industrial park Unplugged, acoustic, reduced… Ambros pur! has been going consistently well for over ten years. Full houses, a direct line to the audience, the songs stripped back to the essentials and a Wolfgang Ambros who clearly feels comfortable in this constellation. “It’s fun to play like this and when you get older, you don’t want it so loud anyway,” he says. A classic Ambros pure and simple. The songs and the show are just like the man, the artist. Unvarnished, authentic and now timeless. 25.07.2024 Haindling at 19.00 Piazza in the industrial park World music from Bavaria. HAINDLING, the cult band from Bavaria, with its unmistakable sound, is probably the most extraordinary musical event that Bavaria has to offer. For over four decades, Hans Jürgen Buchner alias HAINDLING and his congenial colleagues have been on stage without interruption. Always a wanderer between musical worlds and a conservationist, Hans-Jürgen Buchner alias HAINDLING cultivates a musical style that is characterized by a wild mixture of exotic sounds and the most diverse – above all Bavarian – influences – always with Buchner’s unmistakable signature. 25.07.2024 Osaka Monaurail | Japan’s Soulbrothers No. 1, at 19.30 at the Klangfarben Festival in the Thon Dittmer Palais With seven studio albums, two live albums and a solid reputation as a must-see act, Osaka Monaurail are Japan’s leading funk orchestra. Although fado often shines through in her music, it is not her musical home. Luísa is more at home with poetic songwriting that oscillates between pop and other genres. 26.07.2024 Pizzera & Jaus at 19:00 Piazza im Gewerbepark Four hands, three instruments, two voices and one stage. That’s Pizzera & Jaus and that’s “Comedian Rhapsody”. 26-27.07.2024 ZUCKERBROT&PEITSCHE OPEN AIR FESTIVAL at Schloss Pürkelgut The Zuckerbrot & Peitsche Open Air Festival is the biggest electronic music festival in Eastern Bavaria. Two fantastic festival days at Schloss Pürkelgut with a top international line-up, lots of sun and lots of fun! 27.07.2024 Melingo at 19.30 at the Klangfarben Festival in the Thon Dittmer Palais Daniel Melingo, born in 1957, is one of the most dazzling personalities of tango and perhaps the most outstanding tango singer of all at the moment – a wild poet whose sensual compositions breathe the bubbling life of his hometown Buenos Aires. His songs feature all kinds of characters from the demimonde, with the master himself fitting perfectly into the picture with his dandyish to clochard-like charm, somewhere between Tom Waits, Paolo Conte and Nick Cave. 27.07.2024 90s Live Open Air at 16.00 Piazza in the Gewerbepark with Oli P., ATC, DJ Quicksilver, Captain Jack, Rednex and Bellini. 28.07.2024 Norbert Schneider Septett “Ollas Paletti”: Austro-pop with a gospel vibe at 19.30 at the Klangfarben Festival in the Thon Dittmer Palais In his latest album “Ollas Paletti”, a gospel vibe is palpable, which is also thanks to the first-class band with its strong backing choir. The lyrics, sung in Viennese dialect, effortlessly bridge the gap between the serious and less serious aspects of life with great sensitivity. 30.07.2024 Claudia Koreck & Band | “Kalender”-Tour | at 19.30 at the Palazzo Festival in the Thon Dittmer Palais How do moods, surroundings, landscape and our very own perception change over the months? Claudia Koreck has embarked on precisely this search in her latest musical project. The result is a kind of musical calendar with 12 varied songs in which Claudia Koreck unfolds her entire musical spectrum. 31.07.2024 Regensburg Chamber Orchestra at 19.30 at the Palazzo Festival in the Thon Dittmer Palais “Festive summer serenade with highlights from classical music and film music” The Regensburg Chamber Orchestra, one of the most up-to-date classical ensembles in the region, has been an integral part of concert life in the city of Regensburg and the East Bavarian region for decades. It also performs with great success far beyond national borders. Numerous tours have taken the ensemble to France, Italy, Spain, Hungary, Romania and Israel. In the romantic atmosphere of the Thon Dittmer Palais in the evening, Palazzo performs the most beautiful melodies from baroque, classical, musical and pop music. 01.08.2024 La Vie En Rose – Edith Piaf – with Meike Fabian and others at 19.30 at the Palazzo Festival in the Thon Dittmer Palais, a chanson evening with songs by Edith Piaf Strange things happen under the Paris sky. For example this: a certain Édith Giovanna Gassion is born under a gas lantern on a bitterly cold late evening in the first winter of the First World War. On the dark coat of a policeman – in the suburb of Belleville, home to many immigrants. A story that is now relegated to the realm of legend, as the birth certificate speaks prosaically of a nearby clinic. But a story like this, which took on a life of its own like a melody in the air, would be too fitting. This Édith was born late 02.08.2024 Comedian Harmonists in concert at 19.30 at the Palazzo Festival in the Thon Dittmer Palais This refreshing evening alternates with playful ease from quiet, touching moments to exuberant hilarity and wonderful comedy. The six performers sing and dance their way through the story of the COMEDIAN HARMONISTS and into the hearts of the audience with charm and almost boyish enthusiasm. The loosely integrated moderations take an amusing look “behind the scenes” of the legendary vocal ensemble, at the lives of the six original singers and their turbulent time in the “golden 30 years”. 02.08.2024 REWAG Klassik Nacht in the Stadtpark Pure cultural enjoyment in the open air and with free admission. Start on Friday with the REWAG Classic Night in the Stadtpark. Be it with lyrical ballads, poetic protest songs or rock songs: Pollina’s language always remains sensitive and tender. 05.08.2024 Bananafishbones unplugged at 19.30 at the Palazzo Festival in the Thon Dittmer Palais It has been more than an incredible 20 years since the Bananafishbones played their way into the premier league of the national indie rock scene with songs such as “Come to Sin” and “Easy Day”, which have since become classics. Since then, the trio from Bad Tölz has been regarded as “one of the best live bands in Germany” (SZ) and is as creative and passionate as ever after more than three decades of band history. 06.08.2024 Engelstaedter & Meyer at 19.30 at the Palazzo Festival in the Thon Dittmer Palais In addition to selected hits and song gems by Sting, Michael Jackson, Billy Joel and even Queen, which Engelstaetder & Meyer will present in new, exciting arrangements, you will also hear personal favorites that have accompanied the two artists for years. 07.08.2024 A Tribute to Paul Simon – with Lisa Wahlandt & Markus Engelstaedter at 19.30 at the Palazzo Festival in the Thon Dittmer Palais In honor of this outstanding artist, a dozen of the region’s best-known musicians have set out to bring a “best of” from Paul Simon’s work to the stage. Live they play many compositions by Compay Segundo such as Chan Chan, Las Flores de la Vida, El Camisón de Pepa, Orgullecida, Macusa, La Guantanamera. But of course also songs from his own pen. 10.08.2024 Radio Europa at 19.30 at the Palazzo Festival in the Thon Dittmer Palais When the five exceptional musicians of RADIO EUROPA set off over 12 years ago to explore the continent in all its human and artistic diversity, they had no idea how long they would be on the road and where this journey would take them. Meanwhile, RADIO EUROPA stands as a hardly comparable sounding plea for the wonderful idea of a united and peaceful Europe. 11.08.2024 Trio Salato at 19.30 at the Palazzo Festival in the Thon Dittmer Palais The three musicians Rainer (Rainero) Hasinger, Robert (Roberto) Hasleder and Andreas (Andrea) Kessel present an emotional mix of very personal favorite songs from their now impressive repertoire – from classical ballads by Angelo Branduardi, cheeky songs by Lucio Dallas, poetic pieces by Fabrizio De André to “folk songs” by Francesco De Gregori and, of course, hits by the great Adriano Celentano and much more.
