EXCURSION TIP: MUSEUMS IN THE UPPER PALATINATE!

Museums are always worth a visit. The museum landscape in Regensburg already offers plenty, for example the House of Bavarian History, which is well worth a visit, the Kunstforum Ostdeutsche Galerie, the Städtische Galerie im Leeren Beutel, the Historisches Museum am Dachauplatz, the Naturkundemuseum or small, fine museums such as the Brückturm-Museum.
We took a look around to see what other museums you can discover in the area. Perfect for a day out!

The 6 RegensburgNow tips for museums in the Upper Palatinate:

Air museum in Amberg

“Air to see, hear, feel, understand and perceive” is the motto of this unusual museum. On three floors with 650 m² of exhibition space, everything here revolves around the theme of air. In addition to exhibitions, there are lectures, readings, guided tours and concerts. Temporary exhibitions on design, architecture, art, technology and everyday art take place on the first floor. The museum was founded at the beginning of 2006 on the initiative of the artist Wilhelm Koch. Once a year there is an inflatable boat meeting in Amberg. Anyone with an inflatable floating device is invited to take part – there are no limits to the imagination.

Museum Lothar Fischer in Neumarkt

This beautiful museum is dedicated to sculpture and has three changing special exhibitions every year. The three temporary exhibitions usually focus on three different generations of artists. Lothar Fischer was an artist himself. In addition to his own artistic activities, he began early on to study and collect works by other artists and cultures. One exhibition from the field of classical modernism, one from the period of 1960s/70s art from the sculptor’s circle and one more recent contemporary position are shown.

The museum shows 50 reconstructed buildings that reflect the different regions of the Upper Palatinate over an area of 33 hectares on a two-hour tour. Museum gardens and farm animals from the past offer additional insights into the history of rural life. German Button Museum in Bärnau

How do you actually come across a button museum? Bärnau has a long tradition of button factories. The history of the button industry in Bärnau began in 1895, when Johann Müller founded the first mother-of-pearl button factory. In the heyday of the Bärnau button industry, 32 companies were active. So a button museum is an obvious choice. Buttons from four centuries and 26 different materials, machines and equipment from earlier button-making methods, tapestries with hundreds of buttons, the largest and smallest mother-of-pearl button in the world and the button pair whose clothing consists of over 18,500 buttons can all be found in this museum. The German Button Museum was opened in 1975 and has been housed in the former municipal brewery of the town of Bärnau since 1998.
