Muck out

CLEAN OUT & DECLUTTER.

The beginning of the year is the perfect time to finally clear out, declutter and get rid of unnecessary stuff. Something always accumulates or sits uselessly in the cellar. Decluttering is liberating. “Declutter” is the new buzzword. All kinds of tips are circulating on the internet, and tidying expert Marie Kondo now even has her own Netflix series. We’re currently in tidy-up mode ourselves, so we took a look around to see what other options there are for getting rid of things besides Ebay classifieds.
Here’s a list of tips for you on where you can donate or sell things in Regensburg. It will soon be time for spring cleaning…

The RegensburgNow tips for clearing out & decluttering:

Work yard

Werkhof Regensburg offers a wide range of services: Collection and disposal, removals, clearing out and much more. When items or furniture are collected, you pay the price per cubic meter. Anything that can be offered again at the Werkhof GebrauchtWarenHaus is taken away free of charge. Or you can simply bring your items there. The GebrauchtWarenHaus is located at Auweg 22, 93055 Regensburg.

retex e.V.

Anyone who wants to clear out books, CDs, DVDs, Blu-Ray discs or computer games can bring them to the retex association. Retex operates an online mail order business for donated books, CDs, DVDs, Blu-ray discs and video games on eBay. A donation receipt is issued for goods sold. Retex stands for “Regensburger Initiative zur Schaffung von Arbeitsplätzen für psychisch kranke und behinderte Menschen e.V.” (Regensburg initiative to create jobs for mentally ill and disabled people).
Donations in kind can be handed in at both retex locations:
Im Gewerbepark D 54a, 93059 Regensburg, Tel.: 0941/ 69 87 69 0 or Kirchhoffstrasse 4, 93055 Regensburg, Tel.: 0941/ 78 509 0

Oxfam

Oxfam stores are second-hand stores that sell donated items and are run on a voluntary basis. The independent emergency aid and development organization Oxfam Deutschland e.V. uses the profits to finance its work. Clothing, accessories, household goods such as crockery, glassware or vases, books, CDs, DVDs, Blue-Ray-Discs, audio books, toys and games, bed linen and table linen are accepted.

Caritas store “CarLa”

The “CarLa” store accepts one laundry basket or box of well-preserved and preferably seasonal clothing per household. Donations can be handed in every first Tuesday of the month from 9.00-15.00 at Brandlberger Str. 107, 93057 Regensburg or every Tuesday from 15.00-18.00 at Bruderwöhrdstraße 3, 93055 Regensburg.

Straw clothing store

The clothing store of Strohhalm e.V., an association for the support of homeless and needy people, accepts clothing donations. Acceptance is Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 9.00 am to 12.30 pm and on Thursday from 2.00 pm to 5.30 pm. Transitional, fall and winter clothing is accepted from the beginning of October until February. From March to September, only spring and summer clothing is accepted. St.-Albans-Gasse 14 / Entrance Am Römling, 93047 Regensburg.

Campus Asylum clothing store

The clothing store is located at Zeißstraße 1. Clothing can be handed in at the gate of the AnKER facility (Zeißstraße 1), but only items on the current requirements list will be accepted (see: www.campus-asyl.de/spenden/sachspende/). You can also enquire about the need for donations in kind via the e-mail sachspenden@campus-asyl.de. Mostly suitcases or travel bags, school bags and baby carriages are needed. Laptops can also be donated by contacting the laptop team (laptops@campus-asyl.de).

Clothes store in the drugstop akut contact store

You can also drop off clothes at drugstop akut in Landshuter Straße. Drop-off times are during opening hours Mon-Fri from 11.00-16.00.
Landshuter Straße 10, 93047 Regensburg.

Second hand stores

Second Hand am Ostentor accepts branded goods. Ostengasse 30, 93047 Regensburg, Tel: 0941/51141. Another second-hand store in the old town that accepts seasonal clothing by appointment is Peacehand Secondhand Unter den Schwibbögen 3, 93047 Regensburg. Kinder Secondhand BALU is a second-hand store for children’s clothes at Obere Bachgasse 17, 93047 Regensburg, Tel.: 0941 / 5998898

Computerspende Regensburg e.V.

The association is constantly on the lookout for old notebooks, PCs or printers that can be refurbished and passed on by volunteers. The devices are then given to recipients of ALG-I/II and housing benefit, pensioners, people with disabilities, pupils and students in need, social initiatives and groups that serve the common good.

New Regensburger Spielzeughilfe e.V.

If you are clearing out your children’s room, we recommend Regensburger Spielzeughilfe. You can hand in cars, construction sets, craft games, board games, audio books (CDs), wooden toys, Punch and Judy figures, cuddly toys, Lego, crayons, dolls, Playmobil, puzzles, pre-school games and language games. All items go to families with children or single parents who have little money to spend on toys.
There is also a “social store” where anyone can buy toys. The Regensburger Spielzeughilfe is located at Wöhrdstr. 57, 93059 Regensburg. You can find the current opening hours at regensburg-spielzeughilfe.de

Facebook groups

There are various groups on Facebook for selling things, such as “Regensburg Classifieds” or flea market groups, such as “Regensburg Flea Market” or “Online Flea Market Regensburg and Surroundings”. In the group “Zu Verschenken Regensburg” you can give things away.

Flea markets

Flea markets are held regularly at weekends at the Donau-Arena or at Dultplatz. On Saturdays there is also a flea market at the Protzenweiher (7.00 a.m. Am Protzenweiher 23). There have also been yard flea markets in Regensburg for a few years now.

This is a selection. Of course, there are even more second-hand stores and clothes shops.
In addition to Ebay classifieds, there are many second-hand platforms on the internet such as Vinted (formerly Kleiderkreisel) or Medimops and Momox for books.

Our tip:

Start small when decluttering. Not with the cellar straight away, but with a chest of drawers or a kitchen cupboard, step by step.
Or put a box in a place where it won’t get in the way and put something in it every day that you no longer need.
When the box is full, you can either sell or donate the contents.
