MAGICAL PLACES IN THE REGENSBURG REGION!

Today we would like to take you on an exciting journey of discovery into the nature around Regensburg. We recently went hiking again, at the Wackelstein in the beautiful Regental valley. The Wackelstein is a fascinating place that we always enjoy visiting. Reason enough to see what other magical places there are around Regensburg. Next time you fancy a little break from everyday life or simply want to enjoy the beauty of nature, we’ve put together a few recommendations for you.

Here are our 3 tips for very special places and natural phenomena near Regensburg:

The wobbling stone in the Regental

If you turn right up the road just before Landgasthaus Heilinghausen, you will come to a parking lot for hikers in the small village of Gibacht. From there you can follow the hiking sign with the green rectangle (O47). After a short ascent across a meadow into the forest, follow the signposts to the Wackelstein. Surrounded by dense forests and gentle hills, the Wackelstein is a small sensation. At first glance, this large boulder, which lies on a sloping surface, looks like a natural sculpture. But what makes it really fascinating is its amazing ability to wobble. However, we have not yet managed to get the rock to shake…

The Pfaffenstein

Not far from the Reichenbach monastery in the district of Cham lies a truly impressive natural gem that is often overlooked: the Pfaffenstein. There is a small parking lot by the bridge below the monastery on the River Regen. Signs for the hiking trails can also be found there. If you go right along the road below the monastery, hiking trail 47(Re4) begins after the last house on the right-hand side. A path secured with a wooden railing, on which there are also Trimm Dich signs, leads along the edge of the forest to a large cross of Christ. Here you climb steeply uphill to the left and then follow the “Goldsteig” hiking sign. Pass moss-green rocks and continue along forest paths towards Pfaffenstein, which is soon signposted. A very special, magical place.

The robbers’ den

A visit to the robbers’ cave near Etterzhausen is not only an excursion into the past, but also an opportunity to experience the history and nature of this unique region. The robbers’ cave is located halfway between Etterzhausen and Penk, above the Naab, on the Jurasteig trail. This cave was formed during the Jurassic period. At that time, flowing water dissolved the limestone from the rock and formed this cave. It was probably used by the Celts. Later, the cave was used for raids and as a hiding place and retreat due to the good view of the Naab.
