6 IDEAS FOR 6 WEEKS OF FASTING!

Fasting is something that exists in almost every culture – even ancient Egypt had a fasting period. In our culture, it is now less about asceticism and more about getting rid of the winter fat.
Lent is a wonderful time to give up things that we already have far too much of: Stress, plastic, digital media… This year, Lent officially lasts from Ash Wednesday, February 26 to April 9, 2020, with Good Friday being April 10. Many people give up alcohol, sweets, meat and coffee during this time. This can be difficult if you have a business lunch or an invitation. A friend of mine had the idea of deciding what to give up on a weekly basis. If you want, you can do this in addition to giving up coffee and alcohol, etc. After all, doing without is also a good thing, something that changes our attention in a positive way.

We have a few alternative fasting ideas for you here:

  1. Digital detox. Emails, internet, social media… Germany spends an average of 3 (!) hours a day on their smartphones. Quite a lot. How much time is freed up for other things if you give it up… One day a week should be feasible. And it’s best to add a Netflix or Amazon Prime free day afterwards. No more square eyes, instead time for books, conversations, game nights and so on.
  2. Plastik-Fasten.

  6. CO2 fasting – bike and public transport instead of car. That might be difficult for 40 days, but it’s doable for a week or a few weekends, isn’t it? On our site you will also find tips for trips without a car.

By the way: fasting in Christianity lasts a total of 40 days. Strictly speaking, however, there are 45 days between Ash Wednesday and Easter Saturday, but the six Sundays are excluded from the fast.

And if you don’t feel like fasting, simply don’t fast….
