GIFTS AT THE LAST MINUTE!

Christmas Eve is just a few days away, so there’s still a little time left to buy Christmas presents. In the spirit of #Supportyourlocals, we have already brought you some tips for beautiful gifts from Regensburg. Here are the ultimate gift tips, just in time.

Seven individual last-minute gifts from Regensburg

1) Give the gift of happiness and think of others too

The Regensburg talisman is a valuable lucky charm that accompanies those who wear it wherever they go and is an expression of their love of their homeland and solidarity. This fine piece of jewelry in silver and gold for all Regensburg lovers depicts our landmark, the Stone Bridge, in a modern style and is also a symbol of the connection between the giver and the recipient. The talisman brings luck to whoever wears it – and for every Regensburg talisman sold, €10 is donated to the Johanniter Hotel “INCLUDIO” in Regensburg. So you can give the gift of happiness and joy and do something good at the same time, i.e. make someone happy twice over.

2) Courage to wear a hat

No matter whether it’s rainy weather or snowy winter magic – you’ll get through the cold season better with the right hat. All the better if it is also a unique piece of clothing. In Lilo Kinkaid’s store on the promenade in Stadtamhof, there is a large selection and every item is lovingly made by Lilo, a trained milliner. The hats, caps and matching accessories are back in vogue, show their own style and set fashionable accents and “protect” against wind and weather.

3) Crystal clear and dazzlingly colorful unique pieces

Anyone who loves Hundertwasser and Wachtmeister will immediately fall in love with the glass objects at Galerie Glas 49 at Lucrezia Markt on Haidplatz. The artworks are created in the studio at Schulbergl 4, from the initial idea to the finished work. Each one is unique with its own character and cannot be reproduced. The individual designs are also produced according to personal wishes. This results in unique garden objects/figurative objects, clocks, glass pictures or colorful windows or tiles and nameplates. What a wonderful opportunity to receive a creative gift for discerning people with an appreciation of modern art.

4) Cozy warm gifts for cold days

Walhalla Lamm has a pop-up store at Brückstraße 4, where you can find everything to do with sheep. Handmade gift ideas await visitors here: Sheep’s wool and skins, sheep’s milk soaps, soft socks, cuddly toys and much more. So there is something nice and practical for every budget for your loved ones. The owner, Uli Teich, attaches great importance to quality and regionality, which is why he mainly uses raw materials from his own sheep farm. The cuddly toys are sewn exclusively by hand, species-appropriate animal husbandry with constant access to pasture, feeding of the ruminants only through pasture, hay and grass silage, no purchased protein feed, GMO feed, fish or bone meal or growth promoters or antibiotics. The sheep from Walhalla Lamm really do have a good life and good care and are not produced – but grown naturally! This makes for wonderfully cuddly gifts that you can enjoy for years to come.

5) Spiritual drops from Regensburg

The gin’s namesake, the kingfisher, nests near the Stone Bridge. One hundred percent Regensburg, handmade, which is why Eisvogel Gin has always been a Regensburg original. Regensburg’s first gin distillery has been lovingly producing the London Dry Gin 100% by hand since 2017. From maceration and distillation through to dilution, filtration, bottling, labeling, branding and labeling by hand, every single bottle passes through the hands of the two distillers several times. They make a conscious effort to source the ingredients exclusively from regional traders, which means that it not only tastes good, but also has a very special charm that many bars and restaurants in the city have long appreciated. This incredible taste experience can be found in many stores in Regensburg city center, such as Donaustern or Whisky Brothers.

6) For him and her – special jewelry from Regensburg

The special flair of our city is known far beyond its borders and has also been captured in an exclusive jewelry collection. In the Regensburg goldsmiths Vio-Gold, the Regensburg landmarks were set in silver or gold, resulting in extraordinary bangles, pendants, earrings, pins, cufflinks and belt buckles. The prices vary from a small budget to a five-figure investment. Regensburg Cathedral, the Stone Bridge and the Bruckmandl – the “Regensburg feeling of life” is uniquely captured here in patented designs and is only available exclusively here. Each piece, whether naturalistic or abstract, is truly unique and brings Regensburg lovers a little closer to their city.

7) Still gift number one: books!

All these wonderful books and many more about and from Regensburg are available in the city’s bookshops for little money – ask and browse:

Crime stories from the cathedral city

Mimi (as we all know) never goes to bed without a thriller – crime novels are the Germans’ favorite reading material and what better place for a gruesome crime scene than our medieval city with its winding alleyways and Danube fog. Our bookshops have a large selection of Regensburg crime novels to choose from. Paul Fenzl, the author of the Köstlbach crime novels, for example, has chosen a very special Regensburg crime scene in “Fokus Seidenplantage”. Marion Stadler deals with the “Bavarian Anthem” and Manfred Böckl describes historical cases in “Bischofsmord und Hexenjagd”. Rolf Peter Sloet’s “Regensburg im Fadenkreuz: Kriminalgeschichten aus der Domstadt” deals with real crimes from the recent past. Those who prefer a cozy horror with a smile are in good hands with “Der Tod macht keine Schneeballschlacht”, a Bavarian crime thriller for 16 to 99-year-olds by Susanne Hanika from Regensburg. A master of black humor, on the other hand, is Regensburg-born Klaus Schwarzfischer, who pokes fun at the genre in a good Bavarian way in “Kommissar Kroasso und der Ochsenzungenkuss”. In keeping with the Christmas season, “Wenn der Krampus zweimal klingelt” (When the Krampus rings twice) by selected Bavarian authors is a good choice. These include Lotte Kinskofer and Sonja Silberhorn. Enough to browse through for foggy winter evenings by the cozy fireplace or under a warm blanket and give the gift of goosebumps!

Culinary journeys through our city

The culinary journey through our city is no less exciting. Because the Danube flows through Regensburg – and happiness! Find it in antique treasure chests, wander through Regensburg’s cult pubs and 80 places of happiness that Lisa and Benedikt Plikat have tracked down to show Regensburg from its happiest side. Or give the gift of time together over a wonderful breakfast in one of Regensburg’s many cafés. Together with the culinary travel guide “Breakfast in Regensburg” by Eva Janik and Marion Lanzl, this is a wonderful gift idea. The recipient can browse through this booklet and choose their favorite from 30 Regensburg breakfast spots to enjoy together. In addition to the cafe guide and the espresso index, there are lots of interesting stories about the cafés and their owners and interviews with celebrities from the worlds of music and art who have also lost their hearts to Regensburg. Last but not least, the Regensburg cookbook by Marie Schandri from 1868 with a collection of 1,000 recipes from the Regensburg kitchen is a culinary journey into the kitchen of great-grandmothers, which even today should not be missing in any Regensburg household.

History and stories – there have always been scandals!

You can read about this first female celebrity chef and other dazzling personalities in Regensburg over the centuries in Rainer Krämer’s “Regensburg History” in two volumes. About the who is who ? one.eight.one.two 1812 in Regensburg in the edition of the same name and the Regensburg “Chronique scandaleuse” – to name just a few of the books by the regional author in which he proves time and again, in addition to historical facts, that history can also be very amusing! Matthias Freitag also provides an entertaining summary of the World Heritage city from its beginnings in Roman times to the present day in his book “Regensburg”. Peter Lang’s “Regensburg yesterday and today” is a journey through time and a comparison of the past and the current view of the city. It is interesting to discover the transformations in the pictures. Thomas Schnakenberg also takes us on a journey to the most beautiful city in Bavaria with “Regensburg on foot”. There may be a touch of local patriotism when he takes you to the most beautiful alleyways and squares and invites you to follow in the footsteps of famous inventors, researchers and charlatans to discover the attractions and sights of Bavaria’s first capital.

When children discover the city in the footsteps of Waldemar and Co

Children can also be inspired to take a tour of the city, especially if they have already been introduced to the places through books. Be it through the exciting Regensburg hidden object book, in which there is always something familiar to discover, or through books such as “Der kleine Liederling flattert durch Regensburg” by Martina Groh-Schad, “Regensburger Geschichte & Geschichten für Kinder” by Andrea Steinbach or “Sagen und Legenden aus dem Land um Regensburg” by Gustl Motyka. Perhaps the most amusing book is about the city’s most iconic dog, who takes you on his journey through the city: “Das Buch vom Wurstkuchlhund” is a wonderful visit to Regensburg and the historic Wurstkuchl. The lovingly designed picture book for young and old with lively illustrations is also ideal for reading aloud, as the humorous rhymes accompany children into their dreams: “In Regensburg, the city on the Danube, which has no equal anywhere, there once lived bold and colorful Waldemar, the sausage cake dog.”
