In the west

WEST VERSUS EAST.

At the last editorial meeting, Annette and Marina discussed the advantages of their respective places of residence and decided to write about them. Our author Marina is kicking things off, she lives in the west of the city and is a real fan! Annette, on the other hand, lives in the east of the city and will soon be writing about it here on RegensburgNow.
But for now, Marina will tell us about her favorite places…

THE WEST OF REGENSBURG:

The west of Regensburg has its own special attractions, which you probably only really get to know if you live here or take the time to explore the west. I live in Königwiesen myself and always like to take the time to walk towards the city and explore new corners, secret paths and allotments.
When I moved to Königwiesen, I was initially concerned that it was “quite far out”. Now I know the advantages of being both in and out of the city in the same amount of time.

Opera

If you fancy a cappuccino and an almond croissant in the morning, you shouldn’t go all the way into the city, but enjoy the almost Italian flair of Konditorei Opera. Before I moved to Regensburg, I always wondered why people would sit down in a café right on the street – now I know. The pastry shop is impressive regardless of its location. In my opinion, the breakfast is second to none and everyone who eats here regularly knows the mandarin tart. If you can’t get a seat or the situation doesn’t allow it, I recommend taking something with you and walking the few meters to the city park. Prüfeninger Str. 44

Prüfeningen Castle

Prüfeningen Castle

Anyone who, like me, still knows the beer garden at the castle probably still mourns its passing. But the area around the castle also has a lot to offer and is perfect for a walk or a picnic. In summer, it’s best to pick your own strawberries from the fields directly behind the castle. If you take the path further west, you come to the Danube and in summer you can still find bathing spots here that you have all to yourself. I like to cycle a little further towards Matting to really get away from the city. What may sound like a huge excursion is actually about 20 minutes by bike for me and therefore perfect for a little break in between.

Danube Park

If I want to take a short walk or detour, I go to the Donaupark. It stretches along the Danube and, together with the adjacent sports facilities, forms a green strip into the city.

Taormina

My first port of call when I want to eat out in the evening is the somewhat hidden, inconspicuous Italian restaurant “Toarmina” by the tennis court. The view of the greenery is particularly noticeable when you sit on the terrace on warm summer evenings and enjoy the good food. Don’t be put off by the sports hall atmosphere at the entrance, it disappears as soon as you enter the restaurant. Dürerstr. 3 I hope you enjoy exploring the West. If I discover any new places, I’ll be happy to tell you about them. If you already know the west or simply prefer to spend your time in other parts of Regensburg, then look forward to one of the next articles. The east of Regensburg has its own special attractions…
