ORIGINAL GIFTS FROM REGENSBURG!

Every year we look for a particularly nice gift for our loved ones, the helpful neighbor or the grandma in the distance. This special year is even more difficult. We want to give you a few suggestions for original gifts that come directly from our city and are typical of Regensburg. Some things are only available here and nowhere else, and what could be more fun than spoiling yourself with a piece of home for the festive season?

Here are our 10 gift tips:

1) Sweet and unique

The city’s oldest café, Café Prinzess on Rathausplatz, opposite the Old Town Hall, where the Perpetual Diet met from 1663, offers an incredible selection of chocolate specialties, delicacies from near and far and gift ideas. Princes, bishops and their legations from the entire Holy Roman Empire of the German Nation came and went here. Café Prinzess was one of the first German coffee houses to open in this prominent location, just one year after the first coffee house in Vienna. The full-bodied coffee still delights guests today. With original chocolates such as the “Himmelsflüsterer”, which were created in honor of Pope Benedict, the café makes chocolate lovers smile. As a small homage to Regensburg, the first capital of Bavaria, there is an “i love Regensburg” First Capitol Edition. The “Reichstags Konfekt” is also reminiscent of the great times of our hometown and the “Barbara Kisses”, based on an old patented recipe, are reminiscent of the Emperor’s delicious tryst with the beautiful Regensburg girl Barbara Blomberg, which resulted in Don Juan de Austria, the hero of Lepanto, to whom the “cannonballs” of the same name are dedicated.

2) Regensburg- Feeling at home

Especially in the current times, it is not possible for everyone to enjoy the city with all their senses. Nothing embodies the typical smell and taste of Regensburg as much as the smell of a snack in the Wurstkuchl. But now you can also take this home with you or send a piece of Regensburg to loved ones who can’t be here: With the “Brotzeit Häusl” you get the full program – the original potato soup from the world-famous Wurstkuchl, plus sausages and homemade sauerkraut. We also recommend adding mustard! Homemade by the host Andreas Meier, according to his own recipe – unique and indispensable with this snack. So you can enjoy the taste of Regensburg and Christmas can come, because the Christmas market feeling also works at home in front of the fireplace with this aroma.

3) Bavarian wild and original

With internalized Bavarian traditions that are instilled with mother’s milk in Bavaria, namely the love of beer and a morning pint with veal sausage and pretzels, the founders Sandra Helgath and Rüdiger Hanl were keen to create a brand from these staple foods. The result was a real brand: Bayrisch Wild. From rompers to woolly hats, from shirts to cozy hoodies. Everything from the Regensburg collection is produced sustainably and fairly. Design made in Bavaria, a genuine Regensburg product and Bavarian wild! Of course, everything is available online at www.bayrischwild.de and the store is located in Brückstraße.

4) Sweet and enchanting

If you don’t like cooking yourself but still want to give individual and regional gifts, Laura Berg KEKSZauber, Hinter-der-Grieb, is a paradise for you. She also has a gingerbread range and offers designer cookies that can be designed by the customer. Customized with your own photo or message, they make very special sweet gifts. Whether unicorn, pet or special message – at Keksfee Laura they get their wishes baked! The little treats can also be pre-ordered in the online store and collected from KEKSZauberland by appointment.

5) Small but mighty and no witchcraft

If you prefer to give home-baked gifts, the “Regensburger Lebkuchengewürz” (Regensburg gingerbread spice), which is available at the “Kräuterhex” in the Donau Einkaufszentrum, is a real Regensburg specialty. With a wide range of local and exotic spices from all over the world and savory spice blends, fragrances and herbs, the store has been offering a wide range of products for 40 years. The mysterious “Regensburg gingerbread spice”, which has been available in an unchanged recipe for over 80 years, was bequeathed to the “Kräuterhex” by the former “Römer Apotheker” on Cathedral Square, who used to look after the health and well-being of Regensburg’s inhabitants. Even our great-grandmothers used it to make their Christmas treats a special experience.

6) For bookworms and bookworms

Regensburg also has individual gifts for bookworms: Brand new on the market is the book about Großprüfening by Gabriele Deml and Fritz Rehbach, a loving journey through Großprüfening over the last hundred years up to the present day. With many pictorial documents collected over the years. If you want a little more history, then “Der Bauer” is of course always an impressive gift, with everything there is to know about Regensburg. The “Regensburger Almanach”, on the other hand, is just as comprehensive and entertaining, appearing every year with interesting stories. If you would like to delve deeper into the various chapters of Regensburg’s history, you are sure to find exactly the topic that most connects you to Regensburg in the more than 30 volumes by self-taught historian Rainer Krämer. From “Bader, Hebammen, Wundärzte” to “1000 Jahre Judentum in Regensburg”, from the “Cronique scandaleuse” to the “1400 Straßennamen” of the city, there is something for everyone. And if you already know all this, you can put your knowledge to the test with the “Great Regensburg History Quiz”. An always amusing look at the history and stories of a moving city with comprehensive details and always with a twinkle in the eye. Ludwig Fichtlscherer’s rascal stories “Wia i no da Wiggerl vom Arnulfsplatz woa” (When I was still a rascal from Arnulfsplatz) are still amusing – from his childhood to the post-war period, when the former Regensburg rascal became a pioneer in IT.

7) For dogs, masters and mistresses

We’ve known it for a long time – not only dogs have more than one meat tooth and love cookies more than anything. If you want to do something particularly good for your four-legged friend, you might want to try the homemade, vegan or vegetarian dog cookies at Zookies von der Fellnase. The dog cookies are always freshly baked by hand, made with love and, above all, without additives in Regensburg. From “Käsekätzchen” to “Rübenwaldi”, there are gifts for masters and mistresses of their best friend. In addition to the vegan treats, “Zookies” in the store in Obere Bachgasse also offers everything a dog’s heart desires and even a Bavarian line from the toy Leberkässemmel to the “Lausbua” and “Lausderndl” cloth for the Wauzi.

8) In Regensburg it can also be Badstraße

Who didn’t play it as a child? For hours, even days, you sat with friends and rolled the dice and haggled with the real estate for all you were worth. Of course we’re talking about Monopoly. The game for young and old has also been available as a Regensburg edition for a few years now. A special treat because, unlike in the original edition, everyone would surely like to live in Badstraße, right on the Danube. But there are also many sights to discover here, such as Stadtamhof and the Stone Bridge, and who knows what surprise you will draw with the event card? Maybe you’ll have to serve time in the Fragstadt? In any case, a special treat for the whole family and available online and in shops.

9) An eye-catcher for little money

The skyline with St. Peter’s, the rooftops and the Stone Bridge can be recognized from afar and is always a sight to behold. So how about an elegant car sticker or a pretty key ring with the unique silhouette of Regensburg? Regensburg resident Gabi Zollner came up with the idea five years ago and there are now various versions of the statement of love for her home town. The small, fine key rings are available exclusively from Café Opera. The chic sticker for your car is available from the Regensburg tourist office, Bruckladerl, Burgweinting petrol station, Taverna Stefanos, Auto Ganzmann, HEM Tanke Burgweinting, Audizentrum in Nordgaustraße, Autoschilder Menasri, Isarstr or directly from Gabi Zollner via Facebook.

10) Curtain and eyes open!

Just give the gift of joy and pleasure! We can count ourselves lucky, because in Regensburg we have so much entertainment to offer: the Stadttheater am Bismarckplatz, the Velodrom, the Theater am Haidplatz, the Neuhaussaal and not to forget the cabaret stage Statt-Theater in Winklergasse 16, the DEZ-Bühne / Turmtheater and the wonderful Akademietheater. Each theater has its own special and interesting program and bold, top-class productions. And don’t worry, even in the current situation with Corona, the venues are being creative – even if dates have to be postponed or canceled. So there’s no risk in giving away a ticket for a wonderful, unforgettable evening and making eyes sparkle!
