PLACES THAT MAKE YOU HAPPY!
We have just raffled off a copy of the book “Glücksorte in Regensburg” (Places of Happiness in Regensburg) and learned a lot about your personal places of happiness. Thank you very much for your numerous responses and emails! One comment read:
“There are so many beautiful places in Regensburg. Actually, the whole of Regensburg is one happy place!”. We agree with that. We have compiled your top ten places that make you happy and would like to share the results with you.
HERE ARE YOUR FAVORITE PLACES:
Clearly in first place: the Danube! Whether for a picnic or a walk, the Danube is your favorite. “Sitting on the banks of the Danube and simply observing nature is my personal moment of happiness…” wrote one participant. Cycling along the Danube is also very popular, for example “cycling to the Wurstkuchl and watching the ships on the Danube” or cycling “along the Danube in the west of the city”. The Alte Linde and the Spitalgarten on the Danube are also very popular with you.
Closely associated with the Danube is of course the Stone Bridge, your second favorite place in Regensburg. Quote: “To enjoy the view of the cathedral and realize that Regensburg is the most beautiful city in the world” or “You can always watch great sunsets there, or listen to different musicians!” Stadtamhof! “Stadtamhof is a personal place of happiness. It feels like living in a cozy small town, you know all the faces and say hello to each other,” says one resident, but Stadtamhof is also high on the list of all other Regensburg residents. No surprise: the cathedral. “The cathedral – I love looking at it over a coffee or a glass of wine”. The view of the cathedral from Kramgasse is also particularly popular with you. A walk through the old town… Quote: “You feel like you’re on vacation in Italy”. Of course, this includes the many alleyways. For example, Hinter der Grieb, around Bismarkplatz or around Haidplatz were mentioned.
A walk through the old town also includes the many cafés, bars and stores. “I particularly enjoy sitting in front of Kaminski with a delicious latte, or in the courtyard of the MuseumsCafé, or in the courtyard of the Bodega.” Or “My happy place in Regensburg is the Hotel Orphée with lots of wonderful childhood memories at the Jerusalem ballet school.” Even a kiosk was mentioned, “What the Kiosk” on Neupfarrplatz also seems to be very popular. Regensburg from above. “My place of happiness is up on the Dreifaltigkeitsberg near the church and looking down on the city.” Or “Our place of happiness in beautiful Regensburg is at the top of the Dreifaltigkeitsberg on one of the benches in front of the Church of the Holy Trinity. The view over the city is wonderful.” The Winzerer Heights were mentioned or “looking out over the city from the TV tower is an experience in both summer and winter.” The parks: “The Villapark! Small but nice.” or “My favorite place is the beautiful Stadtpark with the Ostdeutsche Galerie.” We also love the Herzogspark and the Dörnbergpark.
The botanical garden. The 4.5-hectare garden on the southern edge of the city belongs to the University of Regensburg. Here you will find lots of plants from different areas and greenhouses. Another place that makes you happy. The Kneipp pool in Königswiesen was a surprise for us. “Here you can lie down, relax and cool off. The flowers there are wonderful.” We don’t know the Kneipp pool yet and will try it out soon. Thanks for the tip. Not directly in Regensburg, but inextricably linked to Regensburg:
The Valhalla. “Enjoying the view from Walhalla is always a special experience for me.” We understand that very well.
