Fall excursions

COLORFUL, COLORFUL, AUTUMN IN REGENSBURG!

The days are getting shorter, the sunlight is weaker, the plants produce less chlorophyll and the red, orange and yellow pigments in the leaves come to the fore. This is the sober and completely unromantic explanation for the magic of this colorful season.
Now is the perfect time to recharge your batteries and get some fresh air on hikes or long walks and admire the colorful autumn leaves in all their glory.
You can find out where you can enjoy autumn in nature here.

Three tips for beautiful fall hikes:

Paul-Pemsel-Steig | High trail from Bad Abbach to Hanselberg

One of our favorite hikes is between Bad Abbach and Oberndorf. The W1 high-level trail and the Jurasteig trail take you across the Danube valley towards Oberndorf to the rock pulpits on the Hanselberg. The way back leads leisurely along the Danube via Oberndorf to Bad Abbach. Great views of the limestone pinnacles included.
Start at the parking lot below the Charbonnières-les-Bains bridge, the W1 trail and the Jurasteig are signposted and lead up to Oberndorfer Straße and then right. Follow the Paul-Pemsel-Steig trail (red rectangle) high above the Danube, always following the Jurasteig trail to the viewpoint on the Hanselberg. From there you have a wonderful view of the Danube before the path continues westwards to a crossroads. Here we leave the Jurasteig trail and follow the “W1” markings in the direction of Oberndorf (see photo).
Once back at the bottom, it is a relaxed walk along the Danube back to Bad Abbach.
Approx. 9-kilometre circular walk with ascents. Refreshment stop: Berghammer brewery restaurant in Oberndorf.

Alpine climb

The Alpine Steig is part of the Jura Trail and is located in a unique landscape conservation area between Eilsbrunn and Schönhofen. It is not really alpine, but you should be sure-footed and the fantastic rocky landscape is a little reminiscent of the Alpine foothills. If you just want to walk there and back, simply start behind the Röhrl restaurant in Eilsbrunn. Incidentally, this is the oldest inn in the world and a wonderful place to stop for a bite to eat.
The Alpine Steig starts here once you have the inn on your right and then keep left (signposted blue rectangle). Wonderful views over the Jura landscape included. It can get crowded here at the weekend, as the Alpine Steig is – unsurprisingly – a popular excursion destination. Please make sure you wear sturdy shoes.
Of course, there are also longer hikes around the Alpine Steig, a detailed and longer route can be found here: Hike Schönhofen

Through the Labertal

The Labertal is still an insider tip for all hiking enthusiasts and is simply beautiful! Forests, meadows and imposing rock formations line the hiking trails that lead through this magnificent Jura landscape. The village of Markt Laaber also offers a wonderful backdrop with its castle ruins.
Our favorite tour is approx. 12 km long and leads from Deuerling to Laaber and back. You can find the detailed tour here:
