BIKE TOURS BY THE WATER!

We love cycling tours and spring is the best time for them. Regensburg’s surroundings offer a multitude of beautiful cycle paths, no matter in which direction you go. It makes you realize again that you don’t have to go far away and that the good and beautiful things are actually so close. Virtually on your doorstep. For all those who enjoy cycling, we have selected three beautiful tours along the water, including beer gardens. All three tours take about 2 to 2.5 hours without a break.

1. along the Regen to Ramspau (there and back 33 km)

This cycle tour starts at the Auerbräu, Donaustauferstraße / corner of Bayerwaldstraße. The Regental cycle path starts on the left bank of the Regen. The route follows the river Regen without any inclines, past bathing bays to the bathing area at the Lappersdorf weir. Here, at the so-called Pielmühle leisure area, there are large sunbathing lawns. The route continues idyllically along the Regen via Regendorf to Regenstauf. Here the cycle path forks on the right bank and we would come to Valentinsbad, but we continue via Diesenbach to Ramspau. By the way, there is also a beautiful river bath here. Next to the baroque Ramspau Castle there is a good place to stop for refreshments with a beer garden in the Ramspauer Hof.

2. along the black Laber to Eichhofen (there and back 33 km)

This beautiful cycle tour starts at the Iron Footbridge. We cycle along the Danube cycle path towards Westbad until we reach the railroad bridge at Mariaort. We cross the bridge and cycle 2 km towards Sinzing (R8), the “gateway to the Laber valley”. The Schwarze Laber flows into the Danube here. Shortly before the train stop, the Schwarze Laber cycle path starts, we cycle towards Alling on the former railroad line of the “Allinger Bokerl”, past Bruckdorf and the Poschenrieder Mühle. At Alling, the cycle path changes to the other side of the river and at the junction to Eilsbrunn we cross the Laber again following the cycle path. The Jura rocks near Schönhofen are particularly beautiful, where you can watch the climbers. At the end of Loch, the Laber is crossed again, where you can see the ruins of Loch Castle. At the Eichofen castle brewery, you can stop off at the inn before heading back. Incidentally, beer has been brewed in this castle brewery since 1692. The Schwarze Laber cycle path to Neumarkt is approx. 80 km long and winds its way through the enchanting Jura landscape past mills, castles and ruins.

3. along the Danube to Oberndorf (34 km there and back)

The start is again at the Iron Footbridge on the Danube cycle path towards Westbad. The route continues along the Danube past the bathing bays in the direction of Großprüfening to Matting. The “Mattinger Hänge” nature reserve is located near Matting. If Oberndorf is too far, you can simply stay here instead, as there is also a bathing area and beer gardens in Matting. Our destination, however, is the Gasthof Berghammer in Oberndorf a little further on. The brewery with its own inn and farm has been owned by the Berghammer family for several generations. We return along the same route.
Alternative route: There is a cable ferry near Matting that you can use to cross over to the other bank, for example to Lohstadt.
