Courtyards
COZY COURTYARDS!
What could be nicer than sitting outside on a warm summer evening? Regensburg offers many possibilities, including many beautiful courtyards that usually remain undiscovered at first glance. The inner courtyards characterize Regensburg’s old town just as much as the squares, alleyways and patrician houses. Visitors or newcomers on an exploration tour are often surprised at what suddenly opens up behind the house facades. You are suddenly in a different world. Some of these courtyards belong to pubs and you can spend wonderfully cozy evenings there. Almost like in Italy.
Here are the RegensburgNow tips for 11 restaurants with inner courtyards:
Fat man. If you walk through the quaint pub over the cobblestones laid inside, you come to the courtyard of the “Fat Man”. In the Middle Ages, this pub was called “Zum blauen Krebs”. This restaurant gave the alley its name. The menu includes Wiener Schnitzel, Salzburger Nockerl and Kaiserschmarrn, which is due to the owner’s Austrian roots. Krebsgasse 6
Amore, Vino & Amici. As the name suggests, it remains Italian. Here you sit in the inner courtyard of the medieval castle of the patrician Grub family. Behind the Grieb 8
Luna Rossa. Here, the owner is again Italian and so she cooks: wonderfully Italian. And the inner courtyard has the same feel. Fischgässel 1
Orphée. The Orphée has been performing in the inner courtyard of the Old Baroque Palace since 1977. A wonderful place. Its little sister Bodega is right next door. Untere Bachgasse 8 Bodega. You will find another tapas restaurant with a beautiful inner courtyard complete with Spanish bull at the address Vor der Grieb 1a, or if you go through the sister restaurant Orphée into the inner courtyard.
Balboa. Neapolitan pizzas and cool drinks in the inner courtyard at Obere Bachgasse 8.
Bolero Tapas. Right next door at Obere Bachgasse 6 is another hidden courtyard. For once, there’s nothing Italian here, but Spanish tapas.
MuseumCafé. If you walk through the Historical Museum on Dachauplatz, you come to the Museum Café. Here you can sit with a view of the nave of the Minorite Church in the former monastery garden. Dachauplatz 4
Offsid3. Offsid3 is located between St-Kassians-Platz and Viereimerplatz with a large, green inner courtyard. A true oasis. The food is seasonal fusion cuisine. Viereimergasse 2a.
OrangeBar. Behind the orange-colored bar, there is also a small, pretty inner courtyard. Keplerstrasse 3
Coming Home. Coming Home promises delicious specialties from grandma’s kitchen. A kind of old town garden is hidden behind the restaurant. Ludwigstrasse 6
Weichmanns. Café Weichmanns also has a garden in the old town. If you walk through the Viennese coffee house-style café, you come to the former art courtyard of the Weichmann metal sculptor dynasty. Gesandtenstraße 11
Of course, there are even more restaurants with courtyards in Regensburg and, as always, this is a subjective selection
(unpaid advertising due to naming and shaming)
