Cooling down
ALWAYS STAY COOL!
It’s really hot in Regensburg at the moment. It’s good to cool down. We’ve looked around to see which places will provide you with a little refreshment in these temperatures.
Here are the RegensburgNow tips for cooling off a little:
Cool – below 20 degrees in Regensburg:
- The Old Chapel. The people of Regensburg also call it the “Cold Chapel”. We have experienced weddings there where the bride wore ski underwear under her wedding dress. The ideal place to cool off in midsummer. Incidentally, the full name is: Stiftskirche unserer Lieben Frau zur Alten Kapelle. Only the tower still shows that this is the oldest church in Regensburg. The interior of the church was redesigned in rococo style. It is said that a Roman temple to Juno stood here before Christianization.
- It is also refreshingly cool in the cathedral. There are guided tours of the cathedral daily at 10.30 a.m. (tickets are available at Domplatz 5)
- How about a visit to a museum? The museum on Dachauplatz is pleasant and you can trace the history of Regensburg.
- Ice cold! The “Kryoaktiv” ice sauna at Haydnstrasse 1 is probably the coldest place in Regensburg, with temperatures as low as -110 degrees.
Pleasant – Shady inner courtyards
In the following pubs you can balance your electrolyte levels with an ice-cold apple juice spritzer:
- Orphée, Untere Bachgasse 8
- Amore, Vino & Amici, Hinter der Grieb 8
- Fat Man, Krebsgasse 6
- Café Weichmanns, Gesandtenstrasse 11
- Museum café, Dachauplatz 4
- Bischofshof am Dom, Krauterermarkt 3
Cold – below 10 degrees in the area:
- Schwandorf rock cellar. A labyrinth of 60 rooms and corridors. Daily guided tours.
- Schulerloch stalactite cave in Essing (Kelheim district). Concerts are even held in the cave in summer.
- König-Otto-Tropfsteinhöhle Velburg (district of Neumarkt).
