NINE EXCURSIONS WITH THE BAYERN-TICKET FROM REGENSBURG!

With the Bayern-Ticket you can travel throughout Bavaria for one day. The ticket is valid on the day of your choice for any number of journeys from 9 a.m. to 3 a.m. the next day on all Bavarian local trains, transport associations and almost all public buses. There is also the slightly cheaper Bayern-Ticket Nacht valid from 6 p.m. until 6 a.m. the following day. The Bayern-Ticket is available for one to five people. The Bayern-Ticket currently costs €27 for one person, €36 for two, €45 for three, €54 for four and €63 for five (as of April 2023). Up to three children aged between 6 and under 15 travel free of charge. So it’s totally worth it for a few spontaneous short trips and excursions.

Here are our tips for 9 beautiful excursions with the Bayern-Ticket:

1st Bamberg

You can reach Bamberg in 2h 02 min with the RE and one change of trains. Here you will find listed buildings, medieval charm and magnificent baroque architecture: Bamberg’s old town was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1993. The World Heritage Site is spread over three districts: the Bergstadt, the Inselstadt and the Gärtnerstadt. The best thing to do is simply stroll through the three districts, visit the cathedral and the Old Town Hall and enjoy an “Aecht Schlenkerla Rauchbier”.

2. bayreuth

You can also reach beautiful Bayreuth in 2 hours with the Oberpfalzbahn and Agilis (OPB, AG) or the RE. The city is particularly famous for the Bayreuth Festival. The Margravial Opera House in Bayreuth is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and the Margravial City Residence in the Bayreuth Rococo style, with museums and picture gallery, is also well worth a visit, as are the Hermitage and Wilhelminenaue.

3. Beratzhausen

The market town of Beratzhausen is located approx. 30 km northwest of Regensburg in the beautiful Labertal valley. You can be there in about 20 minutes by Agilis or RE train. We particularly like the Europa Sculpture Park, which was created in Beratzhausen after the fall of the Iron Curtain in 1992 and runs along the Black Laber. The sculpture park is not only home to sculptures made of wood, but also sculptures made of stone and metal. The over 1000-year-old picturesque town of Beratzhausen and the area in the valley of the Black Laber are perfect for wonderful walks and hikes. It is not for nothing that Beratzhausen is also known as the “Pearl of the Laber Valley”. One beautiful hike, for example, leads from Beratzhausen to Ehrenfels Castle.

4. lam

In about 2h 20min and one change you can be in Lam with the RE or Alex and the Oberpfalzbahn in the Bavarian Forest. Thanks to its central location in the middle of the Arber, Osser and Hoher Bogen mountain ranges and a 150 km network of trails, the town is the ideal starting point for hikes. The Lamer Winkel is known for its endless forests and crystal-clear streams. We love hiking there. And we love the huts there, e.g. the Schwellhäusl or Schareben.

5 Landshut

It takes just 40-43 minutes to get to Landshut on the Alex or the RE. The Lower Bavarian city on the Isar was founded in 1204 and enjoyed its heyday from 1393 to 1503. Here you can visit the highest brick church tower in the world, the majestic Trausnitz Castle, the Gothic Old Town and much more. The Landshut Wedding, which takes place every four years, is famous.

6th Munich

You can be in Munich in 1.5 hours on the Alex or the regional train. Stroll through the Viktualienmarkt and Marienplatz, relax in the English Garden or visit one of the many exhibitions in Munich. A visit to the Bavarian capital is always worthwhile.

Munich

7. nuremberg

You can be at Nuremberg main station in 1h 05min with the RE from Regensburg main station. There are many historical sights to marvel at in Nuremberg’s Old Town: for example the landmark, the Imperial Castle or the large city churches of St. Sebald, St. Lorenz and the Frauenkirche. The Henkersteg and Weinstadel, the Albrecht Dürer House and the Heilig-Geist-Spital on the banks of the Pegnitz provide a beautiful backdrop. Or visit the Toy Museum in Nuremberg. The Museum of the Future is also great. The new branch of the Deutsches Museum in the heart of Nuremberg’s Old Town is a museum of the future that takes an exciting look at questions that concern many of us.

8th Passau

You can reach the city of three rivers, Passau, in 1h 28min with the Agilis and the RE and one change. Three rivers from three directions meet here: The Danube, Inn and Ilz offer a fascinating natural spectacle at the three-river corner. The best place to start for a first overview is the Veste Oberhaus, one of the largest preserved castle complexes in Europe. Also well worth seeing are the Old Town Hall, the Residenzplatz, surrounded by magnificent house facades, the proud Residenz and the Gothic cathedral choir or the baroque St. Stephen’s Cathedral, with the largest cathedral organ in the world with 17,974 pipes and 233 stops. Due to the high number of students compared to the population of 50,000, Passau has one of the highest student densities in Germany at just under 24%.

9th Straubing

The Agilis takes you to Straubing in just 26 minutes. There is a lot to discover in the old ducal town: from the Romans in the Gäuboden Museum to the Romanesque period in St. Peter’s, from the Baroque of the Asam brothers in the Ursuline Church to the Gothic period in St. Jakob. A walk through Straubing is a stroll through the epochs of art history. The town’s landmark is the town tower, which stands in the middle of the old town between Ludwigplatz and Theresienplatz. The Gäuboden folk festival in summer is of course famous. And a visit to Straubing Zoo is worthwhile at any time of year.

The new hands-on museum in Straubing, the NAWAREUM, is exciting. There you can immerse yourself in a wide range of topics such as nature, climate change, plants and the environment with fun and experimentation, understand future technologies and experience sustainability with all your senses.

The ticket is not valid on long-distance trains (e.g. IC, EC, ICE) and long-distance buses. Bicycle transport costs extra and is subject to availability.
