Here are the RegensburgNow audiobook tips:
TSCHICK (Wolfgang Herrndorf)
“Tschick” has long since achieved cult status. A young adult novel and one of Wolfgang Herrndorf’s most popular works. Two adolescent teenagers experience the highs and lows of growing up in just one summer – in an old Lada that drives them all over East Germany. Marius Clarén narrates the unabridged audio book so beautifully that even connoisseurs of the novel will have a lot of fun again. https://open.spotify.com/album/6vp7DC0cC8QbZz8IPyhmJC?si=7GnIiwIUQwy9v4_6JEjOXw
THE MEASUREMENT OF THE WORLD (Daniel Kehlmann)
“Measuring the World” is already a classic! The book was number 1 on the Spiegel bestseller list for 37 weeks. Towards the end of the 18th century, two young Germans set out to survey the world: the mathematician and astronomer Carl Friedrich Gauss and the naturalist Alexander von Humboldt. https://open.spotify.com/album/7EcI3GC60ytPRUNJ1ZDJWY?si=Uthlp44lSHO8r5kNI_XxlQ
SOPHIA, DEATH AND ME (Thees Uhlmann)
If you search for Thees Uhlmann on Spotify, you’re more likely to find music. This is the musician’s debut novel. In “Sophia, Death and I”, Uhlmann deals with the big questions of life in a comically tragic way: death rings at the door. But instead of transporting the narrator to the afterlife, there is a fast-paced road trip between heaven and hell, together with Death and ex-girlfriend Sophia. A fast-paced, funny and touching novel. Exactamundo. Definitely worth a listen! https://open.spotify.com/album/6sM8xPUwzz6Nz6jklfFX5J?si=-nN_b1mLS02pp_TZxeWlCw
A HANDFUL OF STARS (Rafik Schami)
I like Rafik Schami very much! He’s been to Regensburg many times, by the way. In 2017, we organized a charity reading in the Antoniushaus together with the Dombrowsky bookshop. A wonderful person and writer! “A Handful of Stars” is a classic that was published in 1987. It tells the story of a baker’s boy from Damascus in diary form. Syria in the 1980s, from the perspective of an adolescent, doubting and hopeful boy who actually wants to become a journalist. https://open.spotify.com/album/0vua8eNlfYEcsWw4JagmiP?si=O60u1ODLTxKJ6PQb9wnNEw
ORIGIN (Dan Brown)
As I’m writing this, I’m listening to Dan Brown’s “Origin”. In his new novel, Dan Brown also falls back on his recipe for success, namely interweaving secret codes, science, religion, history and art. When the billionaire and futurologist Edmond Kirsch asks three of the world’s most important religious representatives for a meeting, the churchmen are initially skeptical. What does the self-confessed atheist want to tell them? What is behind his “groundbreaking discovery”? After the clergymen have seen Kirsch’s presentation, their skepticism turns to horror. In “Origin”, the symbol researcher Robert Langdon is confronted with the two eternal and crucial questions of humanity and with a “groundbreaking discovery” that could answer these questions.
